At the end of the lesson, you should be able to: i) List the common types of application software and examples of each application software: Word processing Spreadsheet Presentation Graphic Editing Software Suite ii) Explain the usage of application software

Definition of Application Software: a computer program or a suite of computer program that performs a particular function for the user includes all programs that perform specific tasks such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, e-mail and Web browsing

Word Processing: An office application that enables users to create, edit, format and print textual documents Offers commands that enable users to format a document so that they can create an attractive documents

Spreadsheet: Program that processes information in the form of grid of columns and rows Also called a table. Table cell can hold values or mathematical formulas Indispensable tools for anyone who works with numbers

USAGES OF APPLICATION SOFTWARE: A word processing software allows user to create and manipulate documents containing mostly text and sometimes graphics It provides the ability to create, check spelling, edit and format a document on the screen before printing it to paper Can be used to produce documents such as letters, memos, reports, fax cover sheets, mailing labels, newsletters and web pages A spreadsheet software is an application that allows users to organize and manipulate data in rows and columns It produces worksheets that requires repetitive calculations- budgeting, balancing account, calculating loan payments and preparing financial statements A presentation software is an application that allows users to create visual aids for presentations to communicate ideas, messages and other information to an audience A graphics software is an application that allows users to work with drawings, photos and pictures It provides the users the ability of creating, manipulating and printing graphics
